About Sealwood Estate & Vineyard

Vineyard

In October 1773 Georgian hack-writer and satirist William Combe submitted proposals to the Reverend Thomas Gresley of Netherseal for a unique cottage to be built on the land in Linton. Designed to be an escape from Gresley’s usual residence of Netherseal Hall the cottage was one of the earliest of its kind when built and offered Gresley a chance to relax, unwind and enjoy the peace and beauty of lowland Derbyshire. Having been unoccupied since at least the 1940s the cottage fell into a state of disrepair and was fast approaching dereliction and possible demolition. That is until 2004 when the cottage and site caught the attention of local listing inspectors, architectural historians and the District Council. This brought about a spot listing from the District Council listing the cottage as a Grade II structure.

About Sealwood Estate & Vineyard

Rescued, Refurbished and Reinvigorated

During 2008 and 2009 The building was lovingly repaired and extended whilst preserving its unique features such as the pyramidal roof, cellar and unique three-pointed wooden doors. It was during this time our vineyard was created, with just over 4,000 vines now flourishing and producing the grapes that make our award-winning English wines. Alongside the cottage our camping and caravan pitches were opened and have hosted thousands of happy holidaymakers since this time.

Current Day and The Future

In 2024 Clare and Chris purchased the Sealwood Estate and began the process of developing the vineyard and wider estate to fulfil its potential. An extensive refit of the cottage was carried out with no expense spared to ensure a relaxing and enjoyable break for all our guests. This included the purchase of a wood burning hot tub and landscaping works to the estate. Future developments are to offer unique holiday experiences, a wide range of events and much more.
