In early September our senior wine consultant gave the green light for us start our harvest and gather the grapes ready to be turned into our award-winning English wines. This was our very first harvest as owners of the Sealwood Estate and exciting but nerve-wracking time.
The timing of harvesting grapes at the right time is of vital importance to the end product. It is a delicate balance to ensure the right levels of acidity, sugar and tannins that ultimately impact the final flavour and alcohol content. Though weather conditions this year have been favourable for the varieties we grow a wrong call on the harvest time can make or break the quality of the final product.
With time of the essence, an enthusiastic team of over twenty family and friends was quickly assembled to commence the hard work of the harvest.
Over the course of two weekends our team got started bright and early at 7am to bring the grapes in. Whilst the work was hard and some injuries were sustained (secateurs and fingers do not mix!) a lot of laughter and fun was had within the vines!
With our grapes now fully harvested they have been whisked away to our award-winning production partners, with delivery of the bottled end product expected to land in summer 2026.
A huge thank you goes out to all family and friends who helped, with a special thanks to Clare who provided first class refreshments, hospitality and first aid throughout!
