The camper and the wine
When we started thinking about hosting events here at Sealwood, it became obvious to us that vineyards and campervans were meant to be. Both are about slowing down. Both are about discovering somewhere new. They remind you that, when being a camper, the best experiences are often the ones you didn’t initially think of.
That’s where Tom and Emily, founders of The Camper Club, came into the picture.
For anyone who hasn’t come across them, The Camper Club has built a community around exactly that spirit of exploration. Their members spend weekends and holidays searching for unique places to stay, supporting local businesses and discovering corners of the country they might otherwise have driven straight past.
Many English vineyards are still hidden gems despite having over 1,100 vineyards in the UK. You’ll often find them tucked away down bumpy country lanes, surrounded by farmland and villages that most sat navs would never send you through unless you had a reason to visit. They aren’t places you simply stumble across every day, but perhaps that’s part of their charm.
A weekend camping in the vines
When we welcomed members of The Camper Club to Sealwood for our first collaboration events, it quickly became clear just how naturally the two communities fit together. We welcomed Campervans into the vineyard, glasses were poured, cheese was devoured, conversations flowed between complete strangers. Before long the whole afternoon felt less like an organised event and more like a gathering of people who simply appreciated good company, good scenery and, thankfully, good wine.
Campers tasted wines produced from our own Derbyshire vines, learnt a little about how English wine is made. They wandered through the vineyard and spent time somewhere that many admitted they would never have discovered otherwise. That’s one of the nicest things about events like these; they introduce people not just to a bottle of wine, but to a place.
Because that’s really what we’re hoping to create at Sealwood.
Real people, real wine, real experiences
We’re incredibly proud of the wines we produce, but we also want people to experience the vineyard itself. To spend an afternoon amongst the vines. To meet Chris, Clare, Lee, the real people behind the bottles. Whilst leaving with memories that last a little (ok, maybe a lot) longer than the final sip in their glass.
The Camper Club shares that same philosophy. They champion independent businesses and the joys of travel. The collaboration felt less like two businesses working together and more like two communities that naturally belonged alongside one another.
September 5th can’t come quicker.
As English wine continues to grow, more people are discovering what’s being produced right here on their doorstep. We hope to welcome many more campers through the gates at Sealwood.
After all, whether you’re travelling by campervan or simply looking for somewhere different to spend an afternoon, sometimes the best discoveries are the ones waiting just around the next country lane.
